A colleague of mine sent me this image asking what I thought of the actual painting. She was very vague asking email questions regarding the depth and feeling of the painting, what the image evoked for me, what conclusions would I make about the artist based on this portrait.
I thought it looked soft and ethereal. I assumed correctly that it was the Virgin Mother and Jesus. I was a little distorted by the scale of the painting and the time period. I said based on the colors, the texture and the intimacy of the mother and child - I assumed the artist was some sort of saint, maybe a priest a monk, some sort of philosopher.
Adolf Hitler painted the piece and it was one of four used for his portfolio into art college where he was denied.
